Reduce lifestyle risk factors


Social risk factors at work or home are associated with conflict, poor productivity, efficiency, and relationships as well as increased stress, muscle tension, anxiety, injury, chronic pain, and disability. The following risk factors need to be reduced.

  • Conflict: Frequent fights, conflicts and strained relationships with family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues
  • Isolation: Loneliness, isolation and lack of social support
  • Verbal abuse: Verbal abuse with suffering from bullying, verbal attacks, put downs, and negativity
  • Physical and sexual abuse: Being hit, bumped, slapped, or forced into sexual activity with consent
  • PTSD: Post-traumatic stress syndrome after trauma, loss, and conflicts
  • Secondary gain: secondary gain and loss or tertiary gain from continued pain and complaining
  • Work conflict: Work relationships that are stressed with frequent conflict
  • Self: Being self-centered, self-absorbed, selfish, or narcissistic at home or work

Protective factors are associated with improved work effectiveness, efficiency, and relationships while improving energy, mood, resilience, muscle tension, and prevention of chronic pain. The following protective factors need to be done to Strengthen wellness and prevent chronic pain:

  • Social support: Develop steady social support from significant other, friends, family, and colleagues
  • Conflict resolution: Developing positive win-win social and conflict resolution skills.
  • Connectedness: Stay connected to the people around you
  • Communication: Maintain open communication and share quality time with friends and family
  • Honest relationships: Be clear, honest, and gentle with others who you relate to.

  • Tolerance: Learn to be tolerant and forgiving of others since we all make mistakes.
  • Listening: Learn to develop good listening skills that show empathy, compassion, and caring for others
